10th GIKI Science Fair 2009

HEADSTART team managed to secure the top 10th position amongst 25 universities and 20 colleges and amazingly 2nd and 3rd in the science exhibition.......

The GIKI Science Society held their Mobilink All Pakistan Science Fair 2009. There were no less than 170 participants, and a few others besides, taking the total number to about 200.

The Science Fair consists of a number of events. They are grouped under one category - "The Quiz", and the other is the "Science Exhibition". Of course, the actual competition was a lot more interesting than the names.

"The Quiz" consisted of, obviously, a Kasoty Quiz. But besides that, there was a Eureka round - a very unusual experiment competition in which participants are required to perform regular experiments in the most irregular ways. And then there was that perennial favorite Model Making Competition in which participants are required to build model structures from material that would normally be used in an art class: paper, thread, straws, and more paper.

The Science Exhibition also brought in some very interesting projects. The participants came from all around Pakistan. One of the unorthodox things about the Science Fair is how university and college teams can compete in the same pools without any disadvantage to either. It is always funny to see university teams struggling against their juniors. HEADSTART team managed to secure the top 10th position amongst 25 universities and 20 colleges and amazingly 2nd and 3rd in the science exhibition which I think is a great achievement for HEADSTART students. Besides the competition the trip itself served as an outstanding opportunity of learning and enjoyment. Also we learned a valuable lesson that enthusiasm and courage is the basic weapon required to achieve success and that age and experience are of no value in front of the stated virtues.
